Roof claim denied or underpaid?

Insurers push back hard on roof claims. They call storm damage wear and tear, pay to patch a few shingles when the roof needs replacing, or send an engineer who finds nothing.

Our licensed public adjusters document the wind, hail and storm damage, and build the claim for what it really takes to fix it. The first review is free.

Sound familiar?

  • They called it wear and tear.
  • They'll pay to patch it, not replace it.
  • Their check won't cover the roofer's bid.
  • Their engineer found no storm damage.
  • They blamed the leak on an old roof.

Each of these can be challenged with the right proof. Call us before you accept it.

What the insurance company says about your roof

Their adjuster has a short list of reasons to pay less. Here’s how we answer each one.

What they say
What we do

“It's just wear and tear.”

Age and storm damage can sit on the same roof, and the insurer only wants to talk about one. We separate them. Lifted, creased and missing shingles, cracked tiles, hail bruises and bent flashing each get photographed, measured and tied to the storm.

“We'll pay to repair it, not replace it.”

A repair only works if the new shingles or tiles match and the roof can take the work. When they can’t, we show why, and we build the claim for the roof the damage actually calls for, including the building code upgrades the work requires.

“Our engineer found no storm damage.”

That engineer was hired by the insurance company. We document the damage ourselves, show what the report leaves out, and bring in our own experts when the claim needs them.

“The damage is under your deductible.”

Their estimate can land under your deductible while the real cost of the work is far higher. We write our own line-by-line estimate with the materials, labor and code items they left out.

Does homeowners insurance cover a roof leak?

Usually, when a storm or a falling tree caused it. Most homeowners policies cover water that gets in after wind or hail opens the roof, along with the ceilings, walls, insulation and floors it ruins inside. What they don’t cover is a leak blamed on age, wear or poor upkeep, and that is the answer insurers reach for first.

So the cause matters more than the leak. We find what opened the roof and claim the damage inside the house too. Call us before a repair covers it up.

Will insurance pay for a new roof?

Yes, when covered damage means the roof can’t be repaired the right way. Insurers usually start with a repair: a few shingles, one slope, a low number. Whether you get a full replacement depends on how far the damage spreads, whether repair materials still match, and what your policy says about matching and building code upgrades.

Many policies pay replacement cost in two parts: a first check that holds back depreciation, then the rest once the work is done. Some pay only the depreciated value on an older roof. Call us to check yours before you accept their scope.

The contractor's edge

We know how buildings are designed, how they are built, and how to spot the damage most people miss. On complex claims like fires with structural damage or hidden issues, that construction insight and policy knowledge lets us build a stronger claim and challenge a low offer with real authority.

What to know about a roof insurance claim

Waiting to see what the insurance company does is how good claims run out of time.

Don't settle for a patch

A repair is their cheapest answer

The adjuster the insurance company sends works for them, and a few new shingles cost them less than a new roof. Have us check their scope against the whole roof before you settle for it.

Don't take no for an answer

A denial isn't the last word

Insurance companies often deny claims as wear and tear, old damage or not covered. That letter is their side of the story, not the final word. The right proof can change it, but the window to act is short. Call us before you take no for an answer.

Don't tear it off yet

Once it's in a dumpster, it's hard to prove

Tarp the roof to keep more water out, but take photos and video before anyone tears off the old roof, and keep what gets replaced. Once it’s gone, it’s your word against the insurance company’s. Call us first, and we’ll document it the right way.

Call us before you call your insurance company.

Questions about roof insurance claims

Answers to the questions homeowners ask us most about their roofs.

My roof claim was denied. Can a public adjuster still help?

Often, yes. Insurers deny roof claims as wear and tear, old age or poor installation, or send an engineer who finds no storm damage. We document the damage ourselves, read the denial letter against your policy, and build the proof to turn it around. Call us before you accept it.

The insurer will only pay to repair my roof. Can you get it replaced?

If the damage calls for it, yes, we build the claim for it. We check what their scope leaves out: shingles or tiles that can't be matched, damage on slopes they skipped, and code upgrades the work triggers. A patch is the cheapest answer for the insurer, not always the right one for your roof. Call us before you accept their number.

My roof is old. Can I still make a claim?

Yes, if a storm damaged it. Age doesn't cancel storm damage, though insurers often point to it first. Some policies pay less on an older roof, so how yours values the roof matters too. We document what the storm did and check your policy. Call us for a free review.

I already have a roofer. Do I still need a public adjuster?

Yes. Your roofer fixes the roof and can explain the bid. We handle the insurance claim: the policy, the estimate and the negotiation with your insurer. Call us before the work starts, so the damage is documented while it's still there.

How do I know if my roof has storm damage?

Often you can't tell from the ground. Wind lifts and creases shingles and breaks the seal under them. Hail bruises shingles and dents vents, gutters and flashing. Tiles crack where you can't see them. Inside, look for water stains on the ceiling or damp insulation in the attic. Don't climb on the roof yourself. Call us for a free review of the damage.

How much does a public adjuster charge?

You pay nothing upfront, and if we don't recover money, you owe us nothing. Our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, set in writing before you sign, and never more than your state's law allows. Call, and we'll walk you through how it works on your claim.

Should I call my insurance company or a public adjuster first?

Call us before you call them. What you say on that first call can hurt your claim, and most policyholders don't know which words give the insurance company a reason to pay less or deny. We'll help you report it the right way, so call as soon as you find the damage.

My insurer already paid, but not enough. Is it too late to hire you?

You can hire us before you file, in the middle of a claim, or after the insurer pays too little. Many of the nearly 7,000 claims we've handled started just like yours. Don't sit on a low check, though: the deadlines to ask for more keep running. Call us now, while you still have time.
