Understanding large loss claims

Large loss claims come from catastrophic events like hurricanes, fires and storms. A loss that size can close a building or a business for as long as repairs take.

We handle these claims for distribution centers, warehouses and manufacturing plants, apartment and condominium communities, and high-value homes.

The contractor's edge

Arthur Camayd, partner, is a licensed public adjuster with the SPPA designation, a licensed general contractor, and holds a degree in architecture.

We know how buildings are designed, how they are built, and how to spot the damage most people miss. On complex claims like fires with structural damage or hidden issues, that construction insight and policy knowledge lets us build a stronger claim and challenge a low offer with real authority.

What to know about a large loss claim

Waiting to see what the insurance company does is how good claims run out of time.

Don't settle for less

The first number is rarely the whole loss

The insurance company’s adjuster prices the damage they can see. Equipment, inventory, lost income and building systems are where large claims get cut. Have us check their estimate line by line before you accept it.

Don't face their experts alone

Their reports set their number

On a large loss the insurance company sends its own engineers and consultants. We bring our own experts when the claim needs them, so their report isn’t the only one on the table.

Don't settle in pieces

A large loss is paid in parts

Insurers often pay a large loss in parts: an advance, then the building, contents and lost income on their own schedules. Without one person tracking all of it, money gets left in the gaps. We track every part until it’s paid.

Questions about large loss claims

Answers to the questions owners and property managers ask us most.

What counts as a large loss?

There's no single dollar line. A large loss is damage big enough that the building, the contents and the lost income each need their own estimate: a fire that guts a building, a roof torn off a warehouse, water through several floors. When the insurance company brings in its own experts, you need yours. Call us before you accept their number.

Do you handle large residential losses too?

Yes. We handle major fire, wind and water losses on homes, including luxury homes with high-end finishes. The bigger the loss, the more a low estimate costs you, so call us before you accept one.

Can I get an advance payment on a large loss?

Often, yes. Many insurers will pay an advance on a large covered loss, so repairs and temporary costs can start before the claim settles. An advance isn't the final number. We push for an advance that fits the loss and keep building the rest of the claim, so call us early.

Who handles the building, contents and lost income?

We do, together. A large loss is several claims at once: the building, the equipment and contents, and the income lost while it's closed. We price each one with its own estimate and experts and negotiate them as one claim, so nothing falls between them. Call us before you accept any part of their number.

How much does a public adjuster charge?

You pay nothing upfront, and if we don't recover money, you owe us nothing. Our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, set in writing before you sign, and never more than your state's law allows. Call, and we'll walk you through how it works on your claim.

Should I call my insurance company or a public adjuster first?

Call us before you call them. What you say on that first call can hurt your claim, and most policyholders don't know which words give the insurance company a reason to pay less or deny. We'll help you report it the right way, so call as soon as you find the damage.
