Case Summary:
Our firm was contacted by the homeowner’s association president due to several residents reporting water damage to their units. The property management company was advising the association to consider a special assessment in order to finance the re-roofing of all the buildings. Through our investigations, we discovered that the roof had failed due to wind damage from Hurricane Irma. We notified the association’s insurance carrier of the loss, and while the carrier agreed to cover the damages, they initially proposed that the roof tiles could be salvaged and only repaired instead of replaced.
Our team disputed this and entered into the appraisal process, ultimately securing an award settlement of $2,000,000 for our client. The roofing company was able to replace all the roofs, and the association used the remaining funds to re-stucco and paint the exteriors, avoiding a special assessment.
