What your home claim should include

Most homeowners policies cover more than the obvious damage. The insurance company pays for what’s in the claim, so we make sure it’s all there.

The damage you can see, and the damage behind walls and under floors

Other structures, like fences, sheds and detached garages

Your belongings, item by item

Extra living costs if you can’t stay in your home

The contractor's edge

Arthur Camayd, partner, is a licensed public adjuster with the SPPA designation, a licensed general contractor, and holds a degree in architecture.

We know how buildings are designed, how they are built, and how to spot the damage most people miss. On complex claims like fires with structural damage or hidden issues, that construction insight and policy knowledge lets us build a stronger claim and challenge a low offer with real authority.

What to know about a home insurance claim

Waiting to see what the insurance company does is how good claims run out of time.

Don't throw it out

Damaged materials are evidence

Flooring, cabinets and belongings show what the damage did. Once they’re hauled away, the insurer can argue about what was there. Call us before the cleanup crew takes them.

Don't leave money behind

Depreciation is often paid later

Many homeowners policies hold back depreciation until the repairs are done, then pay the rest. That second payment has to be claimed. We track what’s still owed and claim it.

Don't skip the code

Building code upgrades can be covered

When a repair has to meet today’s building code, many policies pay for the upgrade through ordinance or law coverage. First estimates often leave it out. We put it in.

Questions about home insurance claims

Answers to the questions homeowners ask us most.

Should I call my insurance company or a public adjuster first?

Call us before you call them. What you say on that first call can hurt your claim, and most policyholders don't know which words give the insurance company a reason to pay less or deny. We'll help you report it the right way, so call as soon as you find the damage.

Does homeowners insurance cover my belongings?

Usually, yes. Personal property coverage pays for furniture, clothes, electronics and appliances damaged by a covered loss. The insurance company pays for what's on the list, so we build a complete one and price every item. Call us before you send them yours.

Will insurance pay for a hotel while my home is repaired?

Often, yes. If covered damage makes your home unlivable, most policies pay additional living expenses: the extra cost of a rental or hotel, and meals above your normal bill, up to the policy's limit. Keep every receipt. We put those costs in the claim from day one, so call us as soon as you have to leave.

What is recoverable depreciation?

It's the part of the replacement cost the insurance company holds back until the repairs are done. The first check pays the depreciated value, and the rest comes after you repair and claim it, within the time your policy allows. We track what's still owed and claim it, so call us before that time runs out.

Does insurance pay for code upgrades on an older home?

Many policies do, through ordinance or law coverage, up to a limit. When a repair has to meet today's building code, that cost can be part of the claim. Insurers often leave it out of the first estimate. Call us to put it in.

Do you handle condo and rental property claims?

Yes. We help condo owners with the claim for their own unit, and we handle claims for landlords and investors, from one rental house to a large portfolio. Call us for a free review of your policy and the damage.

How much does a public adjuster charge?

You pay nothing upfront, and if we don't recover money, you owe us nothing. Our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, set in writing before you sign, and never more than your state's law allows. Call, and we'll walk you through how it works on your claim.

Every claim is different.
